I haven't written a note in a while, but I was compelled to this morning.
I was sitting, enjoying some stuffed flounder, bread & butter, and OJ for breakfast after church this morning, while looking at the pictures in the Ebony, as I have done for years. I came across a picture of a Black College Football video game for XBOX 360 entitled BCFx (Black College Football Experience). After I finished eating, I came to my laptop to check it out, and see if it wasn't a hoax. Sure enough there is such a game, with halftime shows, drum battles, the works. The gameplay is not on the level as EA Sports' NCAA '10, but it is, at last, black college football.
I continue surfing the internet, looking for more video about the game, so I turned to YouTube. It is here where the note begins.
After watching one of the trailers for the game, I scrolled down and saw some of the comments that were posted. It came to my immediate attention that some people were outraged that such a game could come out. That if white people were to put out a WCFx then they would be deemed racist. That this game is the perfect example of the double standard between whites and blacks.
It is to my knowledge of video games that there is a WCFx. It is not named such. Rather it has a politically correct title: EA Sports NCAA '10. Where every college in the game is a PWI (Predominantly White Institution).
In years past, EA Sports used the likeness of HBCUs in their games, both the basketball and football version. They also incorporated the music of these bands in their menu screens as well. More recently, they did away with all HBCU's in the football versions of the EA Sports game. So now there is only one game that presents the likeness of these schools, but to some white people, it is considered a double standard.
No matter what steps forward black people make, there is always a barrier trying to retard our steps. Leave any comments or questions you may have.
